Carrier-Grade Wireless Infrastructure

Connecting Texas — One Mile or Fifty

Long-haul wireless communications tower infrastructure

Fiber isn't always available. And even when it is, it isn't always the best solution.

NetWest Online designs, engineers, and deploys high-capacity long-haul wireless networks capable of transporting gigabit and multi-gigabit traffic across distances ranging from a few hundred feet to more than 50 miles. Whether connecting buildings across a campus, extending fiber to a remote facility, or building regional backhaul infrastructure, our licensed and unlicensed wireless solutions provide fast deployment, exceptional reliability, and carrier-grade performance.

For more than 25 years, we've been designing wireless infrastructure throughout West Texas—connecting businesses, industrial facilities, data centers, municipalities, energy companies, and wireless internet providers where traditional connectivity isn't practical.

32-Mile Licensed Wireless Backhaul for a Major Bitcoin Mining Operation

Replacing satellite internet with carrier-grade licensed microwave infrastructure for one of West Texas's largest digital asset mining facilities.

A major Bitcoin mining operation in West Texas required a permanent, enterprise-grade communications solution capable of supporting one of the region's largest digital asset mining facilities. The site houses more than 12,000 ASIC Bitcoin miners, creating a constant demand for reliable, low-latency connectivity.

During the early stages of the project, the operation relied on multiple Starlink terminals to provide internet access while permanent infrastructure was being planned. NetWest Online was selected to engineer and deploy a dedicated long-haul wireless network that would provide higher reliability, lower latency, and a scalable communications backbone for future expansion.

The Challenge

Large-scale Bitcoin mining operations depend on continuous network availability. While mining traffic itself may not consume massive amounts of bandwidth, uninterrupted connectivity is essential for communication with mining pools, equipment management, monitoring systems, security platforms, remote administration, and operational oversight.

As the facility continued to expand, it required a communications platform designed specifically for industrial operations rather than a temporary satellite-based solution. The customer needed a network capable of delivering:

Enterprise-grade reliability for continuous mining pool communication
Consistent low latency for equipment management and monitoring
Carrier-grade performance for security platforms and remote administration
Infrastructure engineered for long-term industrial operation
A scalable foundation to support future expansion to additional sites

The NetWest Solution

NetWest Online engineered a 32-mile licensed 11 GHz microwave backhaul system connecting the mining facility directly into the NetWest carrier network. The deployment included:

Licensed 11 GHz microwave transport
Dual 3-foot high-gain microwave dishes
Long-haul wireless engineering
Tower infrastructure integration
Enterprise routing
Carrier-grade backhaul
Network optimization
Future expansion planning

Unlike traditional broadband services, the system was designed as dedicated infrastructure built specifically for mission-critical industrial connectivity.

Engineering Challenges

As with many large infrastructure projects, unexpected technical challenges arose during deployment. During commissioning, newly released radio hardware presented issues that required extensive troubleshooting and direct collaboration with the equipment manufacturer.

Rather than implementing temporary workarounds, NetWest engineers worked alongside the manufacturer to identify the root cause, validate hardware performance, optimize radio alignment, and implement revised power architecture to ensure long-term reliability. This engineering-first approach resulted in a stable, optimized system built for continuous operation.

Performance Results

Following commissioning and optimization, the completed wireless system delivered exceptional performance:

32-mile licensed microwave path
Licensed 11 GHz spectrum
Dual 3-foot high-gain microwave antennas
Carrier-grade stability
Enterprise-class reliability

Achieving a receive signal level of -42 dBm across a 32-mile licensed microwave path demonstrates exceptional RF engineering, precise antenna alignment, and optimized system design. Average latency of approximately 2 milliseconds provides performance comparable to many metropolitan fiber networks while maintaining the flexibility of long-haul wireless infrastructure.

Why Licensed Microwave?

For long-distance industrial connectivity, licensed microwave offers significant advantages over traditional broadband and satellite services:

Extremely low latency
Dedicated licensed spectrum
Reduced interference
High network availability
Rapid deployment
Long-distance capability
Enterprise-grade reliability
Secure point-to-point communications

Built for Expansion

This project was engineered with future growth in mind. Rather than simply replacing an existing internet connection, the infrastructure was designed to become the foundation of a larger regional communications network.

Future plans include connecting additional industrial facilities using the same wireless backbone, creating a resilient private network capable of supporting expanding operations while reducing dependence on multiple third-party providers. The tower infrastructure constructed during this deployment provides the flexibility to support additional wireless transport links as new sites come online.
